How Smithco takes a requirement from RFQ to delivery
Whether the requirement begins with an RFQ, a line-item material list, a complete fabrication package or an evolving project need, Smithco follows a disciplined process from initial review through final delivery.
Submit the requirement
A Smithco estimator reviews the RFQ, material list, drawings, specifications or project requirements, identifies clarification items and prepares the package for pricing.
Coordinate the resources
Smithco evaluates the requirements across its manufacturer, distributor, fabrication and technical resources based on specification, availability, lead time, geography and commercial requirements to determine the best-fit solution.
Quality & documentation
Smithco’s documented Quality Management System governs order execution, with project requirements flowed down to applicable manufacturers and fabrication resources. Qualifications are verified where required, and material certifications and quality documentation are assembled in accordance with project specifications.
Deliver & follow through
Smithco coordinates expediting, tracking, documentation and delivery through project completion, providing the customer with a single accountable point of contact from initial requirement through closeout.
Trusted by leading industrial companies and contractors
Quality is built into how Smithco operates
Smithco operates under a documented Quality Management System designed around the principles and requirements of ISO 9001. Our quality processes provide structured controls for vendor qualification, document management, material traceability, nonconformance reporting, corrective action and project-specific quality requirements. When a project requires specific certifications or qualified procedures — including AISC, ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1 or SMACNA requirements — Smithco coordinates those requirements with the appropriate qualified manufacturers, fabricators and technical resources.
Written QMS Plan
A documented quality framework defining how orders and projects are reviewed, sourced, inspected, documented and released in accordance with Smithco quality requirements and applicable customer specifications.
Quality Manual
The formal foundation of Smithco’s Quality Management System, defining responsibilities, document control, quality procedures and the requirements communicated to manufacturers, distributors, fabricators and other qualified resources.
Nonconformance (NCR) Process
A formal process for identifying, documenting, containing and resolving material or workmanship that does not conform to specified requirements, including documented disposition and corrective action where required.
Corrective Action Process (CAR)
A documented corrective-action process used to evaluate significant or recurring quality issues, determine root cause, implement corrective measures and reduce the potential for recurrence on future orders and projects.
Standard Operating Procedures
Written procedures governing key activities including order review, sourcing, expediting, receiving inspection, document control and quality documentation to promote consistent and repeatable execution.
Continuous Improvement
Quality processes are periodically reviewed and improved using nonconformance trends, corrective actions, supplier performance, customer feedback and operational experience to strengthen execution as Smithco continues to grow.
Certified & qualified project resources
Smithco coordinates qualified manufacturing, fabrication and technical resources based on the certifications, codes and procedures required by each project.
Required qualification and certification documentation is incorporated into the project documentation package where applicable.
