The Problem
The estimating package rarely arrives ready to quote
The difficult package is rarely a finished shop drawing or a completed bill of material. Customers send IFC drawing sets, architectural drawings, structural plans, specifications, schedules and large RFQ packages — and someone has to interpret those documents before an estimator can determine what material needs to be quoted. Today that work can consume days or weeks of skilled estimator time. On fabrication packages, developing takeoffs and quantities from the full drawing set can add days or weeks before pricing can begin; on mechanical projects, a single quote can carry hundreds of line items of pipe, valves, fittings, flanges, bolting and gaskets.
Forged is intended to create an intelligence layer between the customer’s project documents and the estimator — so the estimator begins with structured information rather than a stack of drawings.

Project Document Input
Forged Intake accepts the project information Smithco receives every day, including RFQ packages, IFC drawings, architectural and structural drawings, specifications, schedules, BOMs and other supporting documents.
Requirements Extraction
Forged identifies relevant project requirements, material requirements, quantities, specifications and drawing references, then organizes that information for estimator review.
Structured Estimating Data
Extracted information is organized into a consistent estimating structure, including material descriptions, quantities, specifications, grades, drawing references and other project requirements.
Pricing Development
The structured estimating package provides Smithco estimators with the organized information needed to develop material and fabrication pricing.
Estimator Review
Experienced Smithco estimators review and validate the structured project information, resolve exceptions and clarification items, and maintain control of the commercial quote before release.
Quote Review & Release
Following estimator review and validation, the approved information is used to prepare the customer quote. Final commercial review and quote release remain with Smithco’s estimating team.
Smithco Forged is being developed to support Smithco’s established estimating and project workflows, with experienced personnel maintaining oversight of review, documentation and release. Applicable project requirements and industry standards — including AISC, ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1 and SMACNA — remain incorporated into Smithco’s project execution and quality processes.
